OPERA HOUSE CONCERT.
I _____ A good audience assembled at the Opera House last eveningl, when the second of a series of grand concerts was given by Mr and Mrs Hamilton ( Hodges, assisted by other vocalists. '' A good programme was prepared, and ! most of the items were ably rendered. !Mr and Mrs Hamilton Hodges were | both enthusiastically received. Mrs ! Hodges sang the extremely difficult aria "Ocean, Thou Mighty Monster," from Weber's "Oberon," in a faultless i manner and was warmly encored. With ;Mr Hodges she took part in Bunning's ! duet "When Love is Nigh." The cava- ! Tina "Largo al Factotum" (Rossini) I was splendidly interpreted by Mr j Hodges, and he also gave a sympathetic rendering of a sweet air entitled "Resignation," composed ■by Dr. de Clive Lowe. Miss May pudding sang "The Mellow Autumn Tide," and "In the Chimney Corner"; Mr A. L. Edwards "Bianca" and "When a Little While Has Flown"; Mr Bert Robinson "Doreen" and "Motherland"; and Miss Maud Howard "When the Heart is , Young" and "Good-bye." The latter ; vocalist Avas recalled for each of her 1 efforts. Miss Mcllhone's pupils repeated the Japanese medley and Amazon march, very pretty effects being produced by the various evolutions. The concert concluded with the exhibition of a number of bioscope views, the instrument being manipulated by Mr C. E. Macky. Some excellent scenes were thrown on the screen, and the pictures moved with great steadiness. Mrs E. Queree and Mr Alf. Bartley acted as accompanists.
