OHINEMURI COUNCIL.

PAEROA, this day.

At the County Council meeting yesterday the engineer's report dealt with a serious breakage or fracture In the Karangahake reservoir, which occurred a ■week ago, necessitating the emptying of the reservoir and connecting inlet and outlet pipes to supply the town. After thorough inspection he thought the damage could be repaired and was instructed to have the matter attended to at once. The fracture he considered was due to the hill moving, and could not possibly have been foreseen. The engineer also reported that the county stone breaker liad commenced operations at "Waihi, and was in full work.

The County Inspector reported that at the County abattoirs during March, COG animals were slaughered. Two shei'p which were found to bo diseased were condemned, and their carcases destroyed.

The receipts from the magazine for the month were £16 17/7.

Mr Wrigley, of Waihi, came before the Council in support of an application from the Waihi Fire Brigade for financial assistance. It was decided that the Council had no power to give a grant, but If the brigade applied to the Government the Council would forward and recommend the same.

Geo. Gilmore, Karangahakc, made application for a track. Resolved that trie work be done. Mr Paul and others, Komata, made application to have drains on Netherton-Rangiora Road cleaned. Resolved that offer of Mr Paul to do work for i' 9be accepted. Karangahake Miners" Union, application for use of roller. Resolved that an effort be made to have rollor repaired at once and sent out. Application from P. McKever for extension of water supply to Karangahake. Decided that on paying half cost and charges to 31st December work be done. Petition for footbridge near Waiklno: Engineer instructed toreport at next meeting-. Council decided that the ditch from Rangiora punt to Netherton school be cleaned out, also that ditch behind Dalton'sat Netherton be extended.

A petition was received asking that the footpath on the north side of the Waihi main street from the rise of the hill to Haszard-street be lowered to the permanent level. Decided that the work be done, provided all owners agree.

J. Slevin, Waihi, applied for permission to run the water from his baths down the county water table: Application granted, provided no nuisance was caused.—An application was received from Haora Tareranui on behalf of the Paeroa Maoris asking that the cost of connecting their settlements with the Paeroa water supply should be ascertained and forwarded to the Government, who had under consideration the matter of giving the natives a supply of good water, as the Ohiuemuri River, which had been used from time immemorial, had' been turned into a sludge channel and the water rendered unfit for use in any shape or form. The Council decided to fSrnish the required information.

Mataura Road, Waihi.-Petition from R. Newdick and others that the road be formed: Decided that the work be done at once. The Council decided to expend £GU, balance of subsidy, in Improvng Monagati Road. They, also decided on an application from residents of Consols-street, Waihi, to call tenders for forming and metalling that street. On the motion of Mr Saunders, it was decided to form a footpath from the Waihi main street through the Grand Junction property to Newman-street, provided the owners of

property agreed.

Paeroa Recreation Ground.—This matter was brought before the County Council on Thursday by Cr. Poland.who urged the necessity for immediate steps ueingr taken to secure a suitable site fronr the Government, who had recently bought the leasehold title of Cassrells and Bennett, and also held the freehold. Unless immediate steps were taken, land which was useless as a recreation ground would be set aside. He moved that a plan of the ground wanted be prepared and forwarded to the Government with an application to have it reserved for recreation purposes.—This was seconded by Cr. Barry and carried.
