POLICE COURT.

Drunkenness.—Two first offenders were convicted and discharged with a caution. William Senior was lined 5/ or 24 hours hard labour for drunkenness, and 20/ or 7 days for resisting Constable Cahill in the execution of his duty. William Inkster for a fourth offence within six months was fined 20/ or 7 days. Mary Broun was fined 20/ or 7 days and. Maltha Chase 10/ or 48 hours' for disorderly conduct while drunk. Prohibited Persons.—John McNmighton was fined 20/ or 7 days for being found on licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order. Walter Carder on a similar charge was also fined 20/ or 7 days hard labour. Alleged Theft.—William Crook Murray, a boy of 14, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing two £1 notes, the property of Eliza Watty, from a farm house at Avondale where he had been working-. The money had been placed in a drawer, and Mas taken from there. His Worship after hearing- the case said the evidence was not sufficient to convict Ihe boy upon, but there was a very strong suspicion that ha might have been doing something- he ought not to have done. His Worship discharged the boys, but cau> tioned the mother to look after her son very carefully in future. Adjourned.—Samuel Pierce was charged with using abusive language towards H. P. Kennedy, a police officer in the execution of his duty. The case was remanded till Friday on the application of of Mr Eeed, defendant's counsel.
