'' RESULT OF FIRST CRUSHING.

Mr H. H. Adams to-day reported to =the directors of the Tairua Broken Hills Company the result of the initial crushing at the mine as follows: — [Value of bullion recovered from 000 tbns £300; gold left on plates and lining of boxes, also through new mill, say, £30; assay value of dirty amalgam not cleaned owing to want of berdan,£2o; 25 tons of concentrates (Assay"Value £3 8/4 per ton) awaiting treatment, £S5 8/4; 575 tons of tailings awaiting treatment (assay value |£1 4/8 per ton), £700; total value, I£ll3B 8/4. When the cyanide plant is working you can recover fully .80 per cent, froiii the tailings and concentrates, which would make the return ■£978 from 600 tons. The cost of mining and milling the ore will not exceed 15/ per ton, and the output can he increased fully 50 per cent. The Svork of completing the cyanide plant is being pushed on with as great, despatch us possible, and it should be ready to ; work in two months. The above statement shows the ore is not a satisfactory amalgamation ore, but requires the combined treatment of amalgamation and cyanide. All work has been discontinued in the mine, except to sink the winze on the ore from the No. 3 level to No. 4, the present low level. This work is being
