CORRESPONDENCE.
HOSPITAL HOURS
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I see by your paper of even date, a letter signed "T.H.P." criticising an abridged report of my statements at the Hospital Board meeting-. Will you oblige, me by inserting- another portion of abridged report; one of the members stated that the nurses were worked 3 2 hours at a stretch without, a break, constantly on their feet going about from bed to lied, with hardly time to get a bite to eat. When it came to my turn to speak I said the statement was not true, as I had been in the Hospital at mid-night and other hours during the night, and seen one of the nurses sitting1 at the fire reading', and another in the pantry getting tea ready. I don't begrudge the nurses a cup of tea, or any other luxury they require, only I like that when a friend of the nurses is trying to make his case good, he should not do so at the risk of making- statements like above against the management of the Hospital to say the nurses are worked 12 hours without a break, when the average hours for the year are only at the rate of 9£ per day, exclusive of 3 weeks holiday.—l am, etc., JAS. JAMIESON.
