REMUERA ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Remu- i era Iload Board was held in the Church of England Schoolroom last Thursday night at 7.30 p.m., there being present Messrs J. L. Wilson (chairman), Jas. Russell, Wm. McCullough, and H. Johnston. In reply to the Board's letter of February" 23, 1599, with reference to widening the Remuera Boad bridge near Newmarket station, Mr C. ; Holm Biss, district engineer of rail- ' ways, Auckland, wrote stating that if the Board's application is to be acceded to and the work to be caried out, tbe cost must be paid by the Board. The j estimated sum required would be £250. j It was decided to see Sir G. M. i O'Rorke and Mr F. Lawry, M. 11. B.s, J with reference to the matter. j A letter was read from the Town Clerk, Borough of Parnell enquiring. if this Board or a committee of it • would meet in conference with the < City, Newmarket, and Parnell Councils, and Mount Eden Road Board, to devise such prompt, measures being taken as may abate the gross nuisance at present existing in Hobson Bay caused by the drainage from the above districts. It was resolved that the Board be represented at the Con- i feience by Messrs Wilson and Russell. • The secretary of the School Com-1 missioners wrote that efforts have been made to induce the Government to consent to an exchange of Little "Rangitoto reserve for other land, but without success, and he reminded the Board that their rights in the section are limited to the taking of scoria ash only, and requesting that any money collected for grazing be handed to the Commissioners. grazing. Several new works on different roads were referred to the foreman to attend to.

Sir W. Melndoe wrote asking for some information as to whether the Ranger was right or wrong in loosing his horse in Portland Road and pounding the same. The matter was referred to the Ranger to report on. The Foreman's report on the work for the past month was received.

A letter was received from the Commissioner of Taxes, Wellington, stating that he had sent to the Treastuy a voucher for payment of £220 17/G advauce of subsidy for the year 1899----1900.

Mr Russell reported what had been done with regard to the proposed wafer supply for the district.

The Clerk reported that the d:r. balance in bank to date was £10 8/2; cash in hand, £2 14/3. Accounts amounting- to £152 16/11 were passed for payment.
