THE WISH OF THE COLONIES
CABLED TO THE IMPERIAL GO-
VERNMENT

WELLINGTON, this day.
The Premier advised the Cabinet to inform the Imperial Cabinet of the colony's hearty approval of the British Government's policy respecting the future of the Transvaal and Orange Free State. Accordingly the Cabinet, resolved to advise the Governor to communicate to the Secretary of State for the Colonies that New Zealand is desirous to express approval of the coarse of action taken by the Imperial Government, set forth in Lord Salisbury's and Mr Balfour's speeches, notably that Great Britain is not prepared to assent to the independence of either state, and would not allow the intervention of any other Power in the settlement of the Transvaal war. The course which the Government 'of New Zealand has taken will be followed by the other colonies, and by Canada. The resolution of New Zealand will too cabled and be published throughout the Empire, together with Mr Seddon's statement- that the colonies could send sufficient men to bold the. Transvaal should it be necessary to withdraw the Imperial forces for service elsewhere.
