SUCCESSFUL AUDACITY.
THE CAPTURE OF LADY GREY AND BARKLEY EAST.
LONDON, March 17. Major Hook, two civilians, and seven mounted police, entered Barkly East. The loyalists gave them an enthusias-tic-reception, and the officials handed over the keys. : After Major Hook's entry the loyalists hoisted the British flag, which was" saluted. The Landdrost fled, but subsequently surrendered. Upon handing over the keys the officials expressed surprise at the audacity of the British. After their flight from Ladygrey, the loyalists pretended that the British were advancing, and made the gaoler don the British uniform and order the' rebels to surrender, which they did, and saluted the flag.
