CALLED FOR BRANDY.
A nuclei e-aged tramp, whose coat had seen better days, rushed breathlessly into a publichouse the other day, and said in jerky tones: "Woman dropped down in street—fainted away —give me quartern best brandy— quick!" The barman gave it to him in a tumbler, and the man, goin<v a few paces from the bar, drank it°of£ at a gulp. "Ah," he said, "I feel better now—stronger, braver. 1 could never bear to see human sufferingl" and he went out repeating, "I feel stronger—braver now."
