LOCAL OPTION POLL.

DUXEDIN, this day. At the Supreme Court a ease came before Mr Justice Williams in which a writ of prohibition was asked for to restrain the Stratford S.M. from proceeding to enforce an order made directing the Returning Officer for Bruce to make a recount of the votes at the local option poll, and to make a further declaration in the matter The decision was reserved. During the course of the argument Mr Justice Williams indicated that lie did not agree with the decision of Major Kedclel, S.M., in the Oamaru case. He said he could not understand the decision that the Returning Officer must absolutely count each Vote himself The poll had to be carried out under the 1593 Act, and the provisions of that Act could only he carried out by the Deputy Returning Officer eonntinothe votes. • °
