Owing to the dry weather reducing the water supply a less quantity of ore thaln. usual was treated last month by the Waihi Company, 8307 tons being put through the mill, as : compared with 9933 tons the previous mouth. Fox- the four weeks ending March 3rd, as already stated, 830? tons of ore were treated, which yielded bullion valued at £20,556. Company has opened the year well by the declaration of a dividend of a larger amount than has previously been paid by that Company. During last year dividends at the rate of 2/ per share were paid. On this occasion the directors have declared a dividend of 2/6 per share, payable on the Ist of March. This means the distribution of £40,000 ■amongst the lucky shareholders in this Company, and brings up the total amount paid in dividends to £508,500.

The erection of the poppet heads over the locality of the new lode recently discovered in tne Waihi mine, and which was named The Empire, has just been completed. As soon as the necessary machinery arrives sinking operations will be gone on with. The position of the shaft is above the manager's residence (Mr Gilmore's), but towards the town side of the Martha hill.
