INSTITUTE OF MINING ENGINEERS.
The annual meeting of the members of the New Zealand Institute of Mining Engineers was held at the Thames School of Mines, the President, Mr James Park, being in the chair. The balance sheet showed the receipts for the year ending December 31, 1899, to be £392 13/8, and the expenditure £232 5/, leaving a credit balance of £160 8/8. The. register for 1899 included 49 financial members, 21 associates, and three students; while 22 members, 13 associates, and one student _ were shown to be in arrear with their annual subscription for last year. On a ballot being taken Messrs Alex. Whitley, F. H. Johnson, and E. H. Hardy were elected new members, and Mr. F. C, Bunyard, an associate. The resignation of Mr Frank Merricks, of London,-one of the, founders of the Institute, was accepted with regret. The proposal to federate with the Australian Institute of Mining Engineers was cai'ried unanimously, and the President was empowered to take the necessary steps to give effect to the resolution. r . .
