(From Our Own Correspondent.)
WAIHI, Tuesday
Mr W. Newdick, son of Mr Richard Newdick, of Waihi, left here on Saturday to join the Rough Riders for South Africa. Mr Newdick had been in camp, but came up to pay a last visit to his friends and relatives. He rode into Paeroa, accompanied by his father. Before leaving, the volunteer corps, which were drawn i|p *i main street, shook hands all round with their departing comrade, and three cheers was called for him, by Mr A. 11. Benge. Mr Newdick galloped away under the cheers of his friends. The Vaudeville Company did good business while here, and gave an excellent sacred concert last Sunday evening. Mr B. Barnett left Waihi on Monday last for Waimate. He carries the good wishes of many friends with him. Tb fcolve thte ExhiiWton money question it has been suggested here that it be given to the fund now bein"- raised for those wounded soldiers' or sufferers from the present, war. This would be a good and suitable way to settle the difficulty, for it would relieve, instead of incite.
