AVONDALE-WAIKUMETE SHOW.

The entries for the first Avondale-1 iWaikumete show Avere more numerous i than the promoters expected, the reSuit being most enjoyable for all con-1 cerned. A very fine display of apples > was made, upwards of one hunax-ed plates being* sho ..m by Mr Bluck alone. .Very fine samples of grapes .ver«. also I shown, as well as numerous varieties of peaches and plums. Kimberley; dairy produce, Mr Bollard; industrial, Mrs Shore and Miss Larkins; jams, etc., Mr A. Tyre. In opening the show, Mr John Bollard, M.H.B, for the district, expressed pleasure after nearly 40 years residence in Avondale at being spared to congratulate the people of Avondale iWaikumete and Henderson on the whole of that large district being occupied by smiling homesteads. They sometimes heard the district sneered at, but the shoAV they had brought together would be a credit to any district in Auckland. He was at JPukekohe and Northcote shoAvs, and he made bold to say that Avondale Avas die best of the three. He had never seen a better exhibition of apples, not sven in Auckland. He hoped they would make it an annual event. He thanked all who had assisted in making the exhibition a credit to the district, and formally declared the show open.
