THE WANGANUI MEETING.
Our Wanganui neighbours bring off their autumn fixture on Thursday and Friday next. Splendid acceptances have been received and .the meeting should be a big success.
On the first day the Cup of GOOsovs. 12 mile, comes up for decision. A capital acceptance of twelve has been received, and the Avinner is well concealed. The Taranaki and Egmont Cup winner Coronet holds his place at the top of the list with 9.6. He is a great stayer, and on recent form-he should run well. With 9.2 Boreas is considered by many the pick of the handicap. He has got a mile and a half all right, and no doubt he can stay the extra quarter of a mile. The stable also have Advance engaged. Skobeloff is pretty well certain to go to the post, and on his running in the C.J.C. Midsummer Handicap his prospects read • bright. He was only beaten a head by Ben Farley, after an interesting finish from the half distance. I fancy Coronet and Skobeloff, and perhaps the latter will get home.
The opening event of the programme is the Stewards' Stakes, one mile, in which Tolstoi may run well, but the issue is decidedly open. Favona will meet very fair opposition in the First Hurdles. He has 10.11 to carry, being placed lib below Light. It is fair to predict that he will take considerable beating. In the Flying Handicap Tolstoi should run well.
