i General Bullers cavalry guard the 'Tugela Drift opposite the hill. An eye-witness reports that \\p to the capture of Green Hill General Buller took a hundred prisoners. His movement imperils the Boers' communications northwards and threatens Isambvilwana. mountain, from the slopes of which the enemy have been bombarding: Ladysmith with long1 range guns. I Details of the capture of Monte Cristo show that General Buller as* saulted the position with heavy artillery tire on the front and flank, and also vigorously attacked the rear.
General Buller praises the energy and dash of the irregular cavalry, the West Surreys, Scots Fusiliers,. King's Eoyal Eifles and the steadiness of the artillerymen find the Natal contingent under occasionally very accurate'fire.
The enemy's guns at Monte Cristo having been previously withdrawn the final resistance was slight.
The correspondent of the "Daily News" says that the Boers fled at the sight of the bayonet.
General Buller occupied the trenches abandoned by the Boevs -on ■ Inhalwe Hill.
Dr. Leyds explains that the Free State section of the army, who were in Natal, has gone to help. Commandant Cronjefi and that Geenral Buller is now profiting- by the weakness caused by the withdrawal.
