AUCKLAND YACHTS IN SYDNEY.
The annual race for the Gascoigne Cup in connection with the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron was sailed* hv Sydney Harbour on 10th inst. and: was won by Mr C. T. Brockoit's Aoma, built by Messrs Logan Bros., of this city. Of the 1 ace the Sydney Telegraph says:—Lsea (scratch) was first across the line, then at intervals came Herreshoff (18m), Fairlie (45m), Aoma (30m), and Actaea \*"m), the latter Im 30s behind time. On 'the work down to Bradley's Aoma sailed away from all except lsea, and the scratch boat had also to give way, to the speedy 30-footer at Bradley's; These two were still in close quart'eis at Steel Point, whence the whole fleet stuck to the eastern shore down to the south reef. Standing out to se^, Aoma had a good lead from lsea, and then -came ilerreshoff, Actaea, and Fairlie. Aoma surprised everybody by the manner in which she' kept ahead of the scratch boat, while all the time these two were getting further awny from the . others. After rounding long, reef kites were soo'nin evidence for the run back to.port, lsea steadily overhauled the little boat, and at. Shark Island she was 2m 20s ahead, while Actaea had gained ti couple of minutes on He fresh-oft. Balloon sails were now the order of the day for the reach up to Fort Denisou, before rounding which lsea had tacked another lis on to her leaQ from Aoma, while Herreshoff .was now only 6m lGs behind the former and 2m -16s ahead of Actaea. On the short work back to Shark Island, Aoma if*'ai-n caught lsea, crossing her to leeward of the Pile Light,'; afid being first to square away at the bu|y. Here the difference between the two was 38s in favour of the little boat. After a slight luffing match, however, lsea again got in front, and stayed there, the finishing times being":— lsea, tih'3m 355; Aoma," 6h 9la 9s; Herreshoff, 6h 19m 325; Aetaea,6h 22m 225; Fairlie, 6h 47m 6s. Deduct ing handicaps Aoma had the big margin of 22m 23s in her favour for firstplace; Herreshoff beat Fairlie lta 24s outside her allowance of 27m, and" the ex-Tasmanian was lm 16s inside her time from Actaea. lsea was last^ beaten 4m 13s by Actaea. The yachts were all in charge of their respective owners.
