The export of eels promises to develop into a considerable industry. Says an Otago paper:—Nearly lOOOlbs weight of this dainty of the Maoris finds its way daily into the Mataura freezing chamber. Of all those who are sending in eels to Mr Lambert's Wyndham depot, Mr Thomas Ayson is the "ringers." He uses eel pots made on the Maori plan. In one of these pots, set for twenty-four bourse, lis caught over 1001b of fish, of which 531b (41b and under) were taken at the depot.
