s A successful patriotic concert in aid s of the Auckland Rough Riders' fund ! was held in the Papakura Public Hall ■on Thursday last. The Rev. T. Nome ! presided, and gave an introductory . address. Stirring addresses were also • delivered by Messrs W. H. Massey j and F. Lawry, M.H.R.'s. The latter ; gave also two suitable recitations. A - pianoforte selection was given with • her usual ability by Mrs Somerville, [ who also played the other accompani- • ments. Songs were well sung by Miss . Davies, "Sons of '.' the Empire," and. "Boys of the Old Brigade." Mr Warren sang i "Soldiers of the Queen," and in res- ; ponse to an encore a comic selection. Mr Geo. Eeid sang "The Absentminded Beggar" and "Who carries the . Gun."The hymn "0 God, our help in ages past," was aung by the audience. The chairman intimated that as the result of a collection made at the . meeting, cash at the door, and a subj scription of £20, a total of £31 4/ . had been raised, and it was expected | that the sum would be increased to , £40, exclusive of £5 raised at the , post oflice, and the children's pence at the day school. A vote of thanks to all who had assisted was moved by Mr Jones, and carried by acclamation The singing of "God Save the Queen" closed the meeting.
