PARNELL SAILING CLUB

On Saturday afternoon the Parnell ■Sailing- Club held its third series of yacht races of the season, and some, excellent racing took place. The Mission yacht Southern Cross, moored off Judge's Bay, was flagship. Mr G. V. Edgcumbe acted as starter, and Mr ~F. W. Coombes as judge and timekeeper. The Patiki race was very keenly contested. • Eka took first place on the j lead tip to the mark oft" Hobson street wharf, and during the rest of the race j there was a most interesting contest between Eka and Rambler, one or the other alternately leading. At the end of the first round Rambler was leading, with Eka second, Rita third, and Boomerang fourth. The finale was a very close race between Eka and Rambler. The times of finishing were:—Eka, 4h 52m Is; Eambler, 4h i 52m ss; Boomerang, 4h 53m 30s; Rita, 4h 53m 48s; Zoe, 4h 55m 15s. On time allowance Rita takes first place, Rambler second, and Eka third. The Eka, having most points to her credit 1 for the series, takes the prize. The race for 22-footers resulted as follows:—Myra, 4h 59m 355;- Anita, 5h Gm 555; Melissa, 5h 7m 425; Welcome Jack, 5h llm 28s. On time allowance Anita takes first place, Myra second, and Melissa third. On points, Myra wins the trophy. The finish of the race for 26-footer yachts was as follows:—Swift, 5h 55m si>s; Waitangi, 5h 59m; Kotiro 6h 4m 10s. On time allowance Waitangi- is first, Kotiro second, and Swift third. In the open handicap race the times of finishing were as follow: —Thelma (scratch), 5h 52m 455, 1; Corinna (20 mm), 6h 16m ss, 2. Thelma won the race and takes the trophy. Aorere, which was the only other competitor in this race, met with an accident to her gear, which compelled her to retire after the first race.
