A MAN DROWNED.

(By Telegraph.—Press - Association.)

WELLINGTON, October 31. '

A hulk-keeper named Crae left in a sailing boat last night to hoist lights on the Union Company's hulk Arawata. A strong southerly gale was blowing, and as- no lights were ever hoisted, search was made late at night to see whether the boat had come ashore, but no trace could be found, nor did Crae report himself.

It appears almost certain that the man McCrae was drowned. A rudder, apparently belonging to his boat, has been picked up. Probably the boat filled and sank right away, being ballasted with iron.
