INVEECAKGILL, Wednesday.
The Hokonui railway, a reconstructed tramway with a few railefe added. Was formally opened to-day by Mr J. G. Ward, the member for.: the district, in the absence of: the;; Minister for Public Works. The lineis some 13 -miles lon^. and has 005%: some £82.000 from first to last I*"" goes east from Win ton, and there is.a : ., desire to extend it ultimately to the-v trunk line at or near Gore, thus cut- . ting of. the long miiengo at. present run via Invercargill; There-was a great crowd at Zhe t'.-.-:nonstration, which was somewlnU :;::;;-red by. thunderstorm.
