BETTING FRAUDS.
GEORGE BUBEAR GETS THREE
MONTHS'.
LONDON, November 21
George. Bubear, ex-champion sculler, was to-day sentenced to three months' imprisonment for obtaining money from bookmakers by fraud. When the case was before, the' Police Court there was evidence that a man named Barker was in the habit of handling in bundles of tele'gnims just prior to the running of a race, making- bets with bookmakers, in the meantime a confederate telephoned the names* of the winning horses. Such telegrams as had not been forwarded were got back, the winners name inserted and the •bookmakers misled by the times shown on the messages, paid over the money. on the message, paid over the money. Bubear was suspected of conspiracy, as he made application for moneys arising- out of such transactions.
