POLICE COURT.

THIS-DAY,

Mr H. W. Brabant, S.M., presided over the sitting of the Police Court today. A nia.li named Charles O'Mara Hart, alias William O'Mara, was. convicted of drunk and disorderly conduct and an assault upon Constable Mackle in fhe execution of his duty. A sentence of two months' hard labour was imposed. Norah Williams was fined 10/ or 7 days' for drunkenness, and a first offender, who did not appear, was also fined; 10/. A charge of vagrancy against Christina Larsen was adjourned till Wednesday to allow further enquiries to be made by the police. Thomes Wells pleaded guilty to travelling by the s.s. Mararoa from Sydney without paying his fare, and avus fined £3 or one month's hard labour. SubInspector Wilson represented the police in the above cases. On the information of the Traffic Inspector (Mr Turner), Richard Chiplin was fined 1.0/ and costs for obstructing- Wellesleystreet with an omnibus, and Thomas Griffin 5/ for carrying more passengers in his 'bus than 'he-was licensed; •to carry. Charles E. Dumper was convicted of assaulting George Goldie by striking him wth a boot. ' His Worship bound the defendant over in his own recognisances of £50, and one surety of £25 to keep the peace towards Mr Goldie for 12 months', and ordered him also to pay the costs of the case, £ 2 S/. Mr McGregor appeared for the prosecution. AVm. Neal, for using provoking language towards Joseph Broun, was bound over in his own recognisan.es of £20 to keep the peace toAvards the informant for 6 months, and was ordered to pay costs.
