I Vagrancy.—Elizabeth Ann' Heffron was convicted of being an idle and disjorderly person, and sentenced.to three months' hard labour. Two men named John Evans and James Austin pleaded not guilty to being found by night without lawful, excuse on premises in. I Vermont-street Austin stated that he went to the house (an empty one) because Evans gave him to understand t'hat'he had 'just rented it for 6/. a week. Elingamite a pair of trousers and a vest, value 25/, the property of Olg-us Lesjberg, was remanded for one week on the application of Chief. - Detective Grace. Committed for Trial.—A little girl named Ethel Browne was charged with. j having stolen, between November 6th and 10th, from the house of Ah Leong and Gnn Go'tt, £7- in money and 2 rings, valued at £2. Chief-Detective i Grace 1 conducted the prosecution. The ! evidence showed that the money and j rings were taken from the pockets of Ah Leong's clothes, which he had left locked up in his house. The accused gave one of the rings to another girl jto sell, stating that she had picked it up in Khyber Pass. She also bought a pair of boots, tendering a half sovereign in payment. Cont. Mackle deposed to seeing the accused go into i the Chinamen's house one day. He followed, and arrested her for theft.
