GENERAL. BUTLER'S POSITION.
LONDON, No vember 16,
General Sir Wm. Butler, the commander of the military forces in.the Western district, and late commander-in-chief at the Cape, did not attend the Queen during the Bristol public^ demonstration as a display of hostility was feared owing to tiie circumstances under which he was recently suspended at the Cape.
[General Butler was, according to report, recalled from Cape-Colony because his attitude, even when hostilities were inevitable with the Transvaal, was to deprecate Britain going to war.] -..,;..'
