LATE RACING.
At Ellerslie this morning tlie Sou'wester chestnut mare owned by Dr. Bewes, of Otahuhu, was being'schooled over a hurdle in company with Hylas and Thelma,when the first named struck the obstacle, falling and breaking her neck. Mr Renzie Walker, who was riding the mare, escaped with a shaking, the injuries were of such a nature that the mare was destroyed. The mare was an inmate of Mr J. C. Booth's stable, and was only brought up from New Plymouth recently .
