1 AN UNSUCCESSFUL SEARCH. CAPETOWN, September G. The warship Melpomene, which left Mauritius to search for the s.s. Waikato, has returned without having sighted the disabled steamer. [The Melpomene left Port Loivis, Mauritius, to search for the s.s. Waikato about 17th August, seventeen days after the vessel was sighted by the Tacora. She was out about 20 Says and would be cruising in search of the vessel for about a fortnight.]
