GISBORNE HARBOUR.
<O- ■ The Gisborne Harbour Board has received a report from Mr Napier Bell approving of the works that have been carried on during the past seven years, and speaking- hopefully of (ho prospects of securing a permanent port at Gisborne, with a minimum of 12ft of water at low tide. Speaking of the work generally Mr Rell said lie was greatly impressed with what he had seen since his arrival, particularly s<». because when in Australia he had asked people from New Zealand how the (lisborne harbour works were getting on, he was told that they were utterly done, and altogether in a bad way. lie had inspected the works, and could say that there was not a word of truth in what he had been told. The harbour was better than it had ever been, and the l^oard had made good progress in every way. He recommended that for the future operations a Priestmnn hopper dredge, capable of carrying 150 tons spoil, and steaming six knots, bo procured. The Board instructed ifs Works Committee to obtain tenders for such a dredge.
