THE STEAMER TOLOSA.

ARRIVAL IN AUCKLAND. The Tolosa, about which some anxiety was felt owing to her non-arrival j at Port Chalmers, where she was ex- • peeted to put in an appearance on I Wednesday last, caused some surprise |in shipping circles by arriving in | Auckland from New York this mornling, Captain Seaborn being unaware that she was to make Port Chalmers j her first port of call in the colony. The passage, which occupied 73 days, was an uneventful one, its length be- ■ :ing caused by the steamer's comparaItively slow speed, the average maintained during the voyage being about nine knots. When the vessal left New j York her instructions were to make Auckland the first port of call, but advices were afterwards received •by the local agents notifying that at Capetown the vessel's orders would be changed and that she would call at Port Chalmers, first. As the vessel had orders to coal at St. Vincent and proceed thence to Auckland direct she did not call at Capetown, so her commander knew nothing of the change which was to have been made, and of course came on to Auckland. The Tolosa had ordinary weather on the trip out, the only'rough weather experienced being in the Southern Ocean, where a couple of northerly gales were met with. All the ship's fetters and papers had been sent to Port Chalmers. On discharge of her New Zealand cargo the Tolosa proceeds to Melbourne, for which port about half her cargo is'booked.
