THE PAPANUI.
The New Zealand Shipping Co.'s splendid steamer Papanui, on her second voyage to the colonies, arrived from London via ports thi<* morning. The vessel is some few days behind her time-tatle date, having been delayed by a mishap to her machinery. This defect will be remedied before the vessel returns to London. T,he accident occurred a couple of days after Capetown was left, and the vessel was some sis days behind her time in arriving at that port. It. M.s. Papanu! left London at midnight on June 22, and had light winds and fine weather to Plymouth, arriving there at 11 a.m. on the 24th. Received malls and passengers and left at 5.30 p.m. the same day. Light winds and fine weather were experienced to Teneriffe, arriving there at 6 p.m. on June 29th, leaving again 2 a.m. on 30th. Capetown was reached at 8 p.m. July I°having had fine weather and moderate breezes all the way. After embarking passengers and 43 bags malls, sailed at 8 P.m. July 17 for Auckland, via Hobart. Ul&t winds and fine weather prevailed until tne 28th, when strong gales and very high seas were encountered until August 7, alter which date fine weather and smooth watei to Maatsuyker, which was reached at J. a.m. on the 12th, and from there tp Dunnstreet Wharf, Hobart, arriving alongside about midday, leaving again at 6 p.m. on. 13th, after discharging mails and a Quantity of cargo. Fresh to strong breezes and high ESE seas were met with across the Tasinan Sea. moderating on approaching Cape Maria Van Diemen, which was passed at noon on 20th, the ship arriving at Queenstreet Wharf at 10.45 a.m. to-day. The Papanui has a considerable quantity of cargo to discharge, and is expected to get away about the end of the week. Captain Sutcllffe has associated with him the following deck officers:-Chief, Mr N. D. Tur-ner-second, Mr F. Bluett; third, T. Pollett'; fourth, L. H. Darrant. and fifth W. Durrant. Mr R. H. Aitken is in charge of the engine-room, and is assisted by Mr .7. Scott, second: Mr A. Somervllle, third: R. H. Mitchell, fourth: E. E. Bell, fifth. Mr X E. Bell is chief refrigerator, and Mr J. J Power second. Mr H. Balgent Is steward in charge, and Dr. B. F. Hartzhome surgeon.
