TERRIFIC GALE AT THAMES.
WATER RACE DAMAGED
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
THAMES,. this day. A terrific gale is blowing- accompanied with rain. Early this morningl an avalanche of boulders, earth, and other debris came down the hill near Stevens' accommodation house at Kauaei^anga, carrying away 22 feet of the country water race. - Debris is still coming down the hill, and it is feared the larger portion of the race will be oarried away. The damage will be repaired as soon as possible. Meanwhile the batteries will be stopped. A new plate glass win dow in Claxton's (tailor's) shop was blown in. Its value was £9 and-it was insiired
Maher's cab, coming from Tarnru Mine this morning, was caught by the wind and lifted off the ground. The top of the cab carrying away saved a bad upset.
Maher's stables at Tara.ru were blown down, burying a cow and two cabs. The cow was extricated unharmed.
