BOARDING OUT CHILDREN.

(To the Editor.) Sir,— Kindly allow me space to modify the bad 'impression got abroad- in reference to tbe- prosecution under the Infant Life Protection Act on Friday last. Mysejf and wife were informed by the late' constable at Avondale that we could not take another child owing to limited space. I lately removed to Mount Roskill to a house large and lofty, and in every way suitable for the purpose, and gave the required notice to the constable at Avondale of my intention to transfer the children to Mount Roskill and should apply for more. When taking the measurements of the new house he did not say we could not take more, and therefore we received one, which was immediately given up when we discovered our error. And for this trivial matter, although no fault of mine, I was fined 40/ and costs and the license cancelled, and owing to the prompt action of the police one or two of the mothers ran the risk of losing their situations. We have always given the greatest satisfaction to the mothers and guardians for seven or eight years, and we have letters to prove it, and such uncalled-for proceedings simply mean persecuting persons who are doing their best for the children and have no desire to break the law. As I am partially invalided owing to overwork many years ago, this reign of terror on a small scale is a rather important matter to me. I am communicating with the chief authorities at Wellington respecting this case, and await result.—l am, etc., SAMUEL ALBERT NELMES, Commission agent, etc., Mount Roskill, late of Avondale.
