THE NATIONAL LIBERAL AND LABOUR ORGANISATION.
(To the Editor.)
Sir.—As an elector of the city, anil ' having a keen interest in t!ia liberal j Ciiise. I attended the meeting: called by Mr Edwards on Friday evening. Mr Edwards is, I understand, the accredited j organiser in the Liberal interest, and ■ has formed branches of the Nationa; Liberal and Labour Organisation throughout the colony, the object being .to weld the Liberal interests In the various centres, in view of tho coming election. Before calling the meeting, Mr Edwards, I pres.ii me and I believe, put himself iri communication with tho various local societies on'the Liberal side, but at the meeting he got little or no encouragement from any one of them, with the excoption. of the Single Tax League, which is nothing if not Liberal. But the Single Tax League is riot a political organisation. Mr Cheal, in his letter In your Saturday's issue, would lead one to believe that such is the case, but it Is not so. Far reaching in its operations, the Single Tax, so called, has more to do with tho liberty of mankind and the brotherhood of man than it has with the Liberalism of New Zealand, although It embraces every Liberal reform whicU has for its object to shake off the shackles from the people and dissipate the privileges of the few.
Tho ("^lngenuousness of Mr Cheal,'j when he says that he was present at Mr Edwards' meeting "to see what the movement meant," is childlike in its simplicity, and leads one to extend to its possessor that sorrow which he has kindly expressed "for Mr Edwards in the way he has been misled." Mtslgd. Misled by whom? By the Liberal Association, or by what body? I think the public would like to know.—l am, etc., A LIBERAL ELECTOR.
