Drunkenness.-rA female first offender was convicted and discharged. Richard Irwin, on bail, for a second offence, was fined 10s. Thos. Bowden was fined 5s and costs, 2s, and John Dunn 10s and costs. Annie Robertson, and old offender, was sent to Mount Eden for one month.

A Treble Offence.—Thos. Finnigan pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct on Sth July in Albert-st. lie was convicted. For using- obscene language on the same date he was also convicted. Accused was fined 40s or the alternative of one month in Mount Eden. For assaulting Constable John Maher in the execution of his duty. Obstructing a Constable.—-John Henry Rowe was fined 20s or the alternative of seven days' imprisonment for obstructing Constable John Maher in the execution of his duty. Disorderly Behaviour. — Michael Shanahan was charged on summons that on the 4th July he was guilty while drunk of disorderly behaviour in Queen-street, thus committing a breach of the Police Offences Act, part 2, section 20. Accused denied the charge. Constable Fitzgerald, Sergt. Gordon and Maurice O'Connor, licensee of the Waverley Hotel, gave evidence in support of the charge. Accused also gave evidence on his owd behalf. He denied that he was drunk, but when he was put out of the Waveriey Hotel by the licensee he was arrested by the police. The bench held the charges proved and imposed a fine of 10s and costs. Cheap Travelling.—Edward" Hardie, a young man was charged that he travelled on the s.s. Elingamite between Gisborne and Auckland without having paid his fare. He pleaded sanity and was fined'2os, the amount of the fare, or the alternamtive of seven days' imprisonment. Defendant said'he was out of employment and the captain of the Elingamite would not let him work his passage. Theft.—Geo. Robert Hamilton (a Maori) pleaded guilty to stealing an overcoat value £1 17/6,. the property of George Dean. He was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour. . The Catapult Nuisance—Two respectable looking boys named Wm. A. Heaney and Chas. Clarke were charged on the information of Con. Fmnerty that they discharged a, stone from a shanghai in Sale-street. Clarke was discharged with a caution, and Heaney was fined 5/ and costs 15/. Insulting Language.—Arty Johnston was charged with using insultin^ language towards Annie Jane Cassells in GTey-street on Sunday, 25th June. Mr McVeagh appeared for complainant. Accused was ordered to enter into his own recognizances for a sum of £10 to keep the peace for six months, and to pay costs £2 9/.
