■ During- the floods in Brazos Valley, Texas, one thousand people took refuge on mounds out of reach of the water, where they were huddled together with reptiles and live stock. •Many negroes, died, some being bitten by poisonous snakes, and others succumbed to starvation. 1 ■ i . ■
