HARBOUR BOARD.

A meeting of the Finance and Legal Committee of the Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon^ Mr W. J. Napier (chairman) presided. A letter from Mr Graham as to salt water baths at Ponsonby was read. It was decided to recommend that a plan of the site be submitted, and that the Harbour-master visit arid report. A letter from the Auckland City Council as to extension of contract time for. Freeman's Bay sewer was considered. The committee decided to recommend that the Board accede to Mr Fallon's request. Capt. Duder submitted a report re harbourmaster's fees and pilotage dues. He suggested remission, of certain charges .in connection with the removal of the Delphic. A letter from the N.Z. Railways Department as to the exchange of lands at Mechanics' Bay between the Harbour Board and the Department was read. It was decided to recommend the Board to reply to tHe effect that they adhered, to the conditions previously submitted, as certain obligations had ~to be carried out with the Board's lessees; also, that the Board adhered to a fixed term with regard to the reclamation work. The draft copy of. the Auckland Harbour Board Empowering Act 1890, to enable the Board to borrow a sum not exceeding £75,000 for the equipment of Calliope Dock, and any other necessary works, was read by the chairman, and its adoption by the Board recommended.
