POLYGAMY AT UTAH.

The Presbyterian Synod of Utah assembled August 29, 1898, passed the following resolutions:—"Whereas it is known to the members of this Synod and to the general public that polygamy, under the guise of 'celestial or, plural marriage,' is not only being taught as a fundamental doctrine to the young people among the Latter Day Saints, but is being openly practised by the Mormon leaders in violation of the constitution and laws of Utah and of the most solemn promises made to the people of these United' States hy said leaders. Therefore be it resolved that the Synod of Utah earnestly urges all people everywhere in our country who favour law, order, and morality, to at once begin the necessary agitation and to unite _a memorial to Congress petitioning that body to define legal marriage as monogamic, and forbidding polygamy under whatever guise it may exist as unlawful cohabitation. Furthermore, the Presbytery states, 'The Mormon people are being urged to live their religion.' This is done by one who enters the 'celestial order of marriage' and 'cohabits' with all wives. Of such cases more than two thousand have come to our notice." Again: In the May number of the "Improvement Era," the official organ of the Mormon Church, appears this statement: "Christians must either learn to tolerI ate polygamy or give up for ever the j glorious hope of resting in Abraham's I bosom." ,
