THE WELLINGTON MEETING.

The Wellington Racing Club Steeplechase Meeting comes off on Wednesday and Friday, July 19 and 21, acceptances for first day's events being due on Tuesday night next. In the Wellington Steeplechase, run on the second day, Dummy occupies the post of honour with 12.2. I prefer Nor'west at 11.10, and the local gelding should give a good account of himself with that impost. He showed a .liking for the Hutt course last year when he won under 10.3. Further down the list I like the prospects of Crusado, who is a good game fellow, and 9.10 is a weight he can handle all right The Gladiator gelding Blackberry ran well at the Gisborne meeting this week, and he may require to be reckoned with. Hangfire (9.11) also reads well. However, it will not surprise me if Crusado or Nor'-west win. The Winter Hurdles, two miles, will be decided on the opening day of the meeting. Social Pest is a ldng among hurdlers, and despite l__s 12.10 he must be labelled very dangerous. Hangfire (10.0), Straybird (9.12) and the A.R.C. Grand National Hurdle Race winner Shylock (9.12) each read with a winning chance. Marina Avon under 9.4 last year, and she has now 10.8. Fit and .well s he cannot be left out of calculation. In the Parliamentary Handicap I like the chance of St. Ursula (10.9). She has previously Avon over the distance, and her condition just now cannot be improved on. First Blood (11.3) must take some beating in the Stewards' Handicap.
