WAIKATO NOTES

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.)

TAMAHERE, Tuesday.

A meeting of settlers was held here last evening for the purpose of deciding whether it was desirable or not that a butter factory should be built in the district. There were eighteen or nineteen probable suppliers present, and considerable discussion ensued upon the question of the site, some of the settlers favouring the farm known as Briarley as the site, while others, including Mr C. Day, who is really the promoter, strenuously opposed this, pointing out the excellent position of Mr Day's farm as a site for the proposed factory.. A meeting to definitely decide the matter is called for Saturday next. MR SPRAGG'S VISIT. PIRONGIA, Tuesday. Mr W. Spragg visited the district last week and met'a number of his milk suppliers. FOOTBALL. The weather proved most unfavourable for the football match between the Te Awamutu and Pirongia Volunteer teams, played here on Saturday. Te Awamutu defeated their opponents by 6 points ( two tries) to nil. The tries were scored by the brothers Bowden. At the conclusion of the game the Te Awamutu team were entertained at dinner at Mrs Finch's hotel, where a very pleasant evening was spent. FLOODS. Rough weather has been experienced for the past week, and the Waipa and all its tributaries are in flood. The roads are almost impassable, and the transport of food, etc., to the large number of men employed about Te Rau-a-moa and Hauturu will be somewhat difficult.
