PROHIBITION CONVENTION

(By Telegrapu.—Press Association.)

STRATFOED, Thursday

A Prohibition Convention, consistingl of delegates from the temperance organisations of Taranaki, was held here to-day. Over 80 delegates were present. The following resolutions were carried:—"That the Rev. W. P. Fairclough be requested .to prepare papers on local and general revenue questions." "That this meeting of delegates from the Taranaki electorates urgently recommend the members for the Taranaki electorates to support Mr Smith's Bill, giving authority to appoint scrutineers at the local option polls, and that the Government be requested to take charge of the Bill." A committee was appointed to deal with the question of prohibition literature for circulation. At noon the local organisations entertained the visitors to a public lunch, nearly 200 attending. An open meeting1 was held during the afternoon. There was a large attendance. Resolutions were passed sympathising with fellow-workers in the Clutha electorate, owing to their work being subject to much misrepresentation, expressing satisfaction with the work they have done, the educational value of which is felt throughout the whole colony, and expressing gratitude and deep satisfaction of the tidings that the Bishop of Christchurch and many clergy of various denominations have issued appeals to the voters to strike out the top line, and vote for "nolicense."
