LYCEUM DRAMATIC CO.
The Lyceum Dramatic Company gave their opening performance last night in the Opera Jlouse before it large audience. A dramatised version of the well-known novel of the Australian author Marcus Clarke entitled
"For the Term of Ilia Natural Life" was presented. The play is of: the "blood and thunder" order, and it was adapted by Messrs Walter Dalgleish and Henry Wenhvorfh, two iending' members of the company. As liiehard Devine. nlios Riifun Dnwes, a convict. Mr Dalits isli .played nauirallv and well, and he was accorded ;i good recei-tion. The humorous part of the llev. Iv[r. Moekin wjih done justice to by Mr J. i.amberl-, and Miss L Kaywood made a favourable impression in the part: of is convict named Crow, (iabbet was also well played by Mr Chas. Hill, who sang ''Botany Bay." The scene of the convict ship Malabar and the blowing- up, together with the return of Dawe.s as a beggar, were nil very effective. "For the term of i'ia Natural Life" will be again staged to-night.
