DREDGING AT THAMES.

The great success of dredging operations in the South has naturally resulted in turning attention to the Thames foreshore, where thousands of tons of tailings have been deposited in the course of the last thirty years. Already the Thames Dredging Claim has been recommended by the Warden. This claim extends from the Magazine West property in a southerly direction past the wharf to a point in front of Curtis' wharf. It extends from high water to near low water mark at the northern end, while south the shore boundary runs outside the railway reserve. Assays of the deposits have been made by Mr F. B. Allen, of the School of Mines, and these run from lid to about 4s per to. It is probable that Southern dredging experts will be on the field shortly for the purpose of examining and testing the value of the deposit, and reporting to the members of a Southern syndicate, who are interesting themselves in the matter. Already it has been ascertained that it will require a dredge costing about £8000 to treat the tailings as they should be worked, but details will not be entered into until the Otago experts have visited the field. Other dredging claims have also been applied for at Tapu and in the Ohinemuri districts.
