RECOGNITION OF MR WITHEFORD'S SERVICES.
A sub-committee of the Auckland Harbour Board was appointed to report to the Board in reference to a testimonial to Mr J. H. Witheford. The report of the committee was presented at the meeting of the Board on June 27 as follows: —
"That a contribution of £120 be made towards the expenses incurred by Mr Witheford in London in connection with his negotiations with the Admiralty for the equipment of Calliope Dock, and that Mr Witheford be requested to permit the Board to expend the sum in purchasing1 and presenting to him a souvenir of the event."
The Chairtnan said it was intended to present Mr Witheford with a tea and coffee service to cost £120. Part of the service was in Christchurch and the other part in Auckland. It was being obtained through Mr Kohn. The report of the sub-committee was tmanimoTialy adopted.
