TER MEETING.
NAPIER, Wednesday.
The sum of £4414 was put through the machines. The big event, the Hawke's Bay Hurdles, was a complete boil-over, Troubadour winning somewhat easily from his field. Mrs Donnelly was presented with the gold bracelet by Captain Russell, her Domination, Koremataku silencing 10 others very easily in the Ladies' Bracelet. HAWKE'S BAY HURDLES of 200sovs; second horse 20sovs and third horse lOsovb from the stake. About 2 miles. 42-r-Mr J. N. Coleman's br g Troubadour, aged, by Sou-wester—Betty, 9.3 (Lynn) 1 57—Mr D. Morrlgan's br g Straybird, 9.8 (Morrigan) 2 51—Mr D. Rutherford's br g Social Pest, 12.9 (Clarke) .3 Also started: 94, Nor'-west, 11.9; 317, Tim, 10.9; 63, Tally-ho, 10.2; 122, Hussar, 9.13; 232, Hangflre, 9.7; 26, En Avant, 9.9. The pace was set by Hangflre, ivith En Avant and Hussar close behind. Then Hussar came to the front and led round the back, where Hangfire fell, and entering the straight the first time Hussar had a slight advantage of Tim, with Nor'-west just on his quarters, while Straybird, Social Pest, Troubadour, and Tally-ho filled up the rear division. This order was not much altered as the horses went round the back of the course, but a quarter of a mile from home Tim was given his head, flattering his backers temporarily. He fell away, however, and Troubadour was seen coming through fast, while Clarke was also moving on Social Pest. The last hurdle in the straight proved fatal to Hussar, who came down, and Troubadour made his effort, winning by about three lengths from Straybird, Social Pest being just beaten for tlie second position, Tim and' Nor'-west being together fourth, with Tally-ho and En Avant last. Time. 4m 0 l-ss. Totallsator, £1004; dividend, £21 10/.
Hunt. Club Cup Steeplechase of 45sovs. Gentlemen riders. About 2J miles.— Puketoi, 1; Carnival, 2; Pyramus, 8. Won easily. Stilts fell. Doris, after finishing, dropped dead. Time, Cm 495. Totalisator, £612; dividend, £19 13/.
Trial Hurdles of 50sovs; about 1$ miles.— Defiance, 1; Watershot, 2; Schnapps, 3. This was Defiance's race from start to finish. Won without the whip by a length and a-half. No time was taken. Totalisator, -£385. Dividend, £1 16/. June Handicap of 50sovs; I'mile.—Daphne, 1; Coolgardie, 2; The Frenchman, 3. Won by a length. Time, lm 41s. Totalisator, £597. Dividend, £4 18/.
