A LETTER OF THANKS.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—lt is only a few weeks ago since I used the columns of your paper to make known the sad and distressing circumstances connected with the death of a wharf labourer, which resulted in throwing his poor widow and young children upon the world. When I wrote detailing the facts, I thought that enough money would have been sent to me to provide her with a mangle and tide her over her temporary difficulties. I confess I did not for a moment anticipate the prompt and generous response to my appeal that has, resulted., A sum of about £170 has already been sent in. On behalf of the widow and orphans, I would heartily thank you for the publicity given to my appeal in your valuable paper, and the public for their spontaneous generosity. This has included not only the above amount, but parcels of clothing and groceries. In consulting with various friends, I have decided to utilise the bulk of the money in the purchase of a little home, a mangle, and other necessaries for a small laundry. I hope, with your permission, to furnish your readers later on with a detailed statement of how the money has been expended.—l am, etc.,

SISTER FRANCIS.
