DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was 'held last evening, when there were preseut Messrs J. C. Macky (Major). M. Niceol, O. Mays, B. Duder, Mitchell, Brookes, J. Dunning, and Handley.
Footpaths.—G. Bobinson wrote complaining of the state of the footputh in Victoria Koad.- —It was decided to instruct the Foreman of Works to at-
tend to the matter. — Mr Meldrum wrote re footpath in Bond-street, and it was decided to make a crossing from one side to the other of the street.
Drainage.—R. H. McCallum wrote re the Council's resolution passed at last meeting in connection with the contract (No. 1) for the Jvorth Head tunnel in connection with the new drainage works, explaining his action in the matter and strongly criticising the action of the Council. —The letter was received. —The seal of the Council was affixed to the contract for tunnel works entered into by J. Mays and Co. and the Mayor and Councillors Mays and Duder signed the contract on behalf of the Council.—The Public Trustee wrote in reference to the drainage of Airs Jeffreys' estate, asking the Council to carry out the work at his cost.—lt was decided to comply with the request. Calliope Road.—Mr Handley raised the question of attending to the state of the water tables in Calliope Boad, and the matter was left to the Foreman of Works to see to.
Rangitoto. —In its capacity as the Rangitoto Island Domain Board the Council decided to accede to a request made by Mr 1). Fallon for 60 yards of hard stone from the island for use in the construction of the Freeman's Bay sewer.
