FRANKLIN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting1 of the Executive Committee was held on "Wednesday, Mr G. Bailard, the President, in the chair. A letter was received from the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association asking the Society's co-operation in obtaining a grant of £1000 from the Government for the purpose of providing gold medals for competition at shows. The committee were not in favour of making the application. The chief business of the meeting' was a proposal to hold a ploughing match. After discussion, it was agreed to hold a ploughing match on July IS, at Mrs Chamberlain's farm, Drury, kindly offered for the occasion, the matches to be with double furrow ploughs, American pattern, one wheel, and two wheel S.F. ploughs, American pattern, also S.F. plough, English pattern. The foregoing to be confined to those who have never won a first prize. There will be a champion match with S.F. ploughs. American pattern, open to allcomers. The secretary was instructed to write to the ironmongers and implement makers for support by donations, and the exhibition. of trial of implements. A sub-committee, consisting' of Messrs G. Ballard, Potter, J. Hoxttly, and the secretary, was appointed to make the necessary arrangements.
