NORTHCOTE—THE PROPOSED SLAUGHTERHOUSE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir.—ln reference to a 'letter re ib* ■ above wbicto appeared on the 14th last, signed 'Joshua Jackson,' I may say that it is a pity that he did not make himself acquainted with all the facts concerned in the proposed slaughterhouse before rushing into print; but he is to be forgiven, as he must have rushed to Ms able pen on the spur of the moment, without weighing the matter carefully over in his mind. I inspected the pro- ; posed site and surroundings on Tuesday last, and let me assure him and all the good people of Northcote that there is not the least chance of any nuisance or any contamination of the stream of wat er finding its way into the Kauri Gully from the Bite of the proposed slaughter* house. Every particle of residue arising from the slaughterhouse will be utilised, so that not one drop or speck will enter the gully; so that I say there Is no need of alarm. I trust Mr Jackson will take this in a kindly spirit, as I am writing this from a sense of duty; and let me assure the Northcote residents that if a nuisance was likely to ensue from anything detrimental to the health of the : locality I should be the first to place It before the health authorities in order to have such nuisance suppressed.—l am, eta, Hy. WALKER. L.F.P.S.G. and L.M. Hkeley House, Auckland, June 17, ISSft, .
