As clear as the moonlight that falls at your feet, As bright as the starbeams, so fitful anffleet, Are your eyes which must close, llttli, oaby, to greet /, The wonderß of dreaming. • ' . .-,•
I could fancy your cheeks, In their beauty complete, Had been fed by the pojmies that grow In the wheat, And your tresses caress'd by the kingcups, my sweet, So golden their gleaming.
I've watched you, my darling, from rosy sunrise, And guided your little feet, klss'd back your cries; /' Now the shadows of evening. have wear* ied your eyes, Bess eeping, be sleeping.
The wind sings you lullabies out of tho trees, I pray for you softly, here, down on my knees. And the words that I whisper, ray baby, are these— 'God! take in Thy keeping.' ~.y]
And He'll send a bright angel to Stand. at your side; When your pretty eyes close, His, will" open more wide, ■•' * And He'll smile as you sleep and sweet" visions provide, And all of His bringing. '.
When shadows unfold and your dreams are all fled, I'll wake you with kisses and gajiane. your bed, And we'll watch the sun rising, all golden and red, '.< ,< Whilst the birds go up. singing, 8.M.R., in the 'Daily Mall."
